2019 Preview
The 2019 program committee has recruited two nationally known speakers. We will announce them in mid-summer of 2018 and the program schedule will be released around mid-November 2018.
Online registration will begin the second week of December 2018. Plan to register early for the best choices. During the transition period, some of the 2018 program details will remain online.
The Winter Wings Festival is produced by Klamath Basin Audubon Society volunteers with support from sponsors, grants, and participant registration fees. Proceeds from this festival support local grants to teachers and other entities for outdoor education and community nature-related projects. The Festival will be celebrating its 40th year in 2019.
2018 Wrap-Up
Maybe it was the great weather, national publicity, or the program offerings. Whatever the reason, we are delighted that 518 participants came to the Winter Wings Festival and experienced the nearby refuges and natural habitat.
We had great response to our keynoters. We learned how to think like a bird from Dr. Kevin McGowan, understand how the woodpecker brain functions with Stephen Shunk, and enjoyed a great bird travel adventure based on 40 years of photography with Moose Peterson.
The diversity of bird species also increased to a record of 140! We offered art workshops featuring this year’s White-headed Woodpecker and brought back the Youth Art Contest featuring woodpeckers of the Klamath Basin.

The Winter Wings Festival is worth the extra effort it may take to get there. The Klamath Basin is stunning, the people are warm and welcoming, and the birds are simply jaw-dropping, whether it’s hundreds of thousands of geese and swans blanketing the refuges, eagles by the dozen, sandhill cranes leaping and dancing, or songbirds in the Cascade foothills. The Festival is out of this world, but only a little out of the way.
The Winter Wings Festival is Top-Knotch! They promote the festival, provide full support and promote the festival to make sure it is well attended.
