We welcome you to the 40th anniversary of the Winter Wings Festival. Please join over 400 who are currently registered. You’ll find that there are still many activities open, especially on Thursday/Friday. Onsite registration is open! For a complete schedule, see our registration tab.
The Winter Wings Festival is produced by Klamath Basin Audubon Society volunteers with support from sponsors, grants, and participant registration fees. Proceeds from this festival support local grants to teachers and other entities for outdoor education and community nature-related projects.
Tips for Planning Your Festival Experience
A parking shuttle is available only on Thursday and Friday during the day; particularly challenging parking days. In addition, there are basketball games beginning around 5 pm on Friday and Saturday evenings. If you plan to attend an event based at Oregon Tech College Union those nights, you may want to park at the Sky Lakes Medical Center lower level garage parking lot and ride our shuttle to the College Union. Please note that a WWF volunteer will give you a parking permit at the entrance to the garage which you must place on your dashboard, Hospital security may tow your car if you do not display this permit! In addition, the ceiling of the structure may be too low if you have a tall vehicle (7 feet) so be aware of that potential hindrance to using this parking option.
A few activities begin at the Running Y Ranch Resort Lodge, the Best Western Plus Olympic Inn, the Waffle Hut and Eatery, and the Favell Museum. Note the meeting place included in the activity description so you show up at the right location.

2019 Keynoters
Pepper Trail has been called “The Sherlock Holmes of Bird Crime,” and his work as a forensic ornithologist with the US Fish and Wildlife Service has been featured in Audubon magazine and National Geographic.
George Lepp is one of North America’s best known contemporary outdoor and nature photographers and a leader in the field of digital imaging. He is an author of many books and hundreds of nationally and internationally published articles and is the field editor of Outdoor Photographer magazine, where his “Tech Tips” column is widely read.
Writer/artist Julie Zickefoose, author of Letters from Eden and The Bluebird Effect, is a Contributing Editor to Bird Watcher’s Digest. Julie loves to encourage people to watch birds more closely and carefully.

Lisa Langell is a full-time, award-winning professional photographer from Scottsdale, Arizona. Lisa sits on the Board of Directors for the North American Nature Photography Association, has been published in numerous top tier magazines and publications, featured in a variety of art galleries, and more.
Tim Boyer is a full time nature photographer from the Seattle area whose images have been published in many bird and nature magazines. He enjoys sharing his knowledge of photography and birds through workshops and presentations. Recently he published Learn the Art of Bird Photography, The Complete Field Guide for Beginning and Intermediate Photographers and Birders. He also is a Seattle Audubon Master Birder.
Red Yarn is a Texas-born, Oregon-based family performer who weaves folksongs and puppetry into high-energy shows for all ages. With his engaging performances, lush folk-rock recordings, and playful music videos, this red-bearded bard reinvigorates American folklore for younger generations.

The show was created by James Currie, host of the nationally syndicated Nikon’s Birding Adventures, during his visit to the Klamath Basin in mid-February. Local birders Gerry Hill, Kevin Spencer, Dave Hewitt, and Harry Fuller (McMinnville) appear on the show.
