Birder's Checklist
Birding the Klamath Basin
Many people come to the Klamath Basin because of the fabulous opportunities to see birds in the Spring and Fall migrations. Winter also offers great birding opportunities. See the largest wintering population of Bald Eagles in the continental United States as well as thousands of Snow Geese, White Fronted Geese, and other waterfowl.
One of our best birders, Dave Eshbaugh, created a list of what he saw as part of the Winter Wings Festival in 2005. Please see the 2005 Bird Checklist by Eshbaugh to get an idea of some of what is available in winter in a single day of birding.
The Klamath Basin Birding Trail website is a great new resource for birding on your own. It includes maps and directions to the best birding sites in the basin as well as a comprehensive birder's list.
You can also visit the website of Klamath Basin Audubon Society to check their "Birder's Message Board" at www.klamathaudubon.org. Click on "Bird Sightings in the Klamath Basin". This site will let you know what is being seen at the time of the Festival by the folks who are actively watching birds in the Klamath Basin.
