Ron Richter

Master Falconer

Workshops:

Ron was introduced to falconry at the age of sixteen but more than thirty years passed before he was re-introduced and became serious about the actual sport. During his two apprenticeship years, he hunted with indigenous Red Tail hawks and knew he was committed, for life, with this intriguing and fascinating sport. He released each hawk duringthe prolific spring seasons when Mother Nature is gentler and the hawks are ready for dispersal.

In the five years following his apprenticeship, he has flew several tiercel Goshawks and a hen Harris Hawk. During the hunting season, which runs from late summer to early spring, you will likely find him in the Klamath Basin's finest farming fields, hunting with his hen Goshawk. (Yes, he has clearance from the farmers.) Rain, snow and sunshine, he is out four-five days per week hunting jack-rabbits, ducks or pheasants. Few things bring him as much pleasure as being part of his bird working a field with him as her teammate. Her flights after quarry are phenomenal to watch and he plays them over and over again in his head.

As a Master Falconer with the Oregon Falconers Association (OFA), he has had the great pleasure of meeting other falconers. It's their kinship and sharing along with the shear excitement of hunting with a bird of prey that has endeared him for life to this phenomenal sport called Falconry. The only two things that surpass his passion for falconry are his family and friends.

Ron Richter says: "It's always a great day in the fields when your bird returns to you."
