James Currie
James Currie, a life-long wildlife ethusiast and native of South Africa, who is fast becoming one of the most recognizable faces in birding and wildlife in North America joins us. James hosts the popular birding TV show, Nikon’s Birding Adventures, now in its 7th season and currently airing on Discovery Channel’s Destination America. He also hosted the popular action-birding show “Aerial Assassins” on National Geographic WILD, aired in the United States and worldwide in 2012and appeared as himself in the reality birding show, “Twitchers” that aired on the National Geographic Channel in 2014. He has led professional wildlife and birding tours for over 15 years and his passion for birding, adventure and remote cultures has taken him to nearly every corner of the globe. An exciting speaker, Currie offers a unique blend of information and adventure, making bird-watching refreshing, contemporary, interesting and exciting. He is an expert in the field of sustainable development and holds a Bachelor’s Degree in African Languages and a Masters degree in Sustainable Environmental Management. We are working with James to film an upcoming TV episode on the Winter Wings Festival and birding in the Klamath Basin.

Stephen Johnson
Stephen Johnson is a landscape photographer, author, designer and educator. He has been photographing since 1973. His work has been featured in Communication Arts, Life Magazine, American Photo, Outdoor Photographer, PBS Newshour and ABC Discovery News, among many others. His books include At Mono Lake, the award winning and critically acclaimed The Great Central Valley: California’s Heartland, Making a Digital Book and most recently Stephen Johnson on Digital Photography. Internationally recognized as a digital photography pioneer, Johnson’s photographs have been exhibited, published and collected in the United States, Europe, Mexico and Japan. In 1994 he embarked on With A New Eye, the ground breaking all digital photographic look at American national parks. Steve was recognized by Apple Computer in 1997 with a ColorSync Profiling Excellence Award. In 1999, Folio Magazine declared the publication of Johnson’s digital photographs in Life Magazine to be one of the Top 15 Critical Events in magazine publishing in the twentieth century. In 2003 he was inducted into the Photoshop Hall of Fame. Canon named Steve as one of their Explorers of Light in 2006 and sponsors speaking engagements with him around the country. In 2007 X-Rite named Stephen as a founding member of their exclusive Coloratti group of photographers and educators honored for their skills in color management.

Art and technology merge for digital photography pioneer Stephen Johnson who will present an exploration of his journey with high-end digital cameras in landscape photography. He has been pushing the edge of this technology for over 20 years and will share some his experiences. Discussions will include the dramatic increases in quality now possible with digital photography, the limitations of film, and the empowerment digital technology enables for artists. Many photographs will be shown, including his fine art pigment prints. Primary focus will be on work from his groundbreaking digital national parks project “With a New Eye,” assembling a large-scale photographic project and on fine art digital printmaking. Learn from digital pioneer Stephen Johnson how he obtains his impressive results in fine-art digital printing. He will concentrate on inkjet printing with color pigments and black/gray ink combinations on coated and rag papers. Mr. Johnson will cover workflow issues, color management, correcting color casts, adjustment layers, custom profile generation, editing, inspection, and a variety of other topics He will also explore print aesthetics in the digital age – what makes for a beautiful print? Learn about problems and advantages of papers, as well as their visual qualities. Fee: $45 (open)
