John Ivie

John Ivie is a Portlander of 17 years. As an illustrator and designer, he works almost exclusively for the National Wildlife Refuge System in the west including projects in Alaska and Hawaii. His passion for natural beauty and wildlife is the result of growing up in the ponderosa pine forests of Flagstaff, Arizona, and playing in the four-corners area of the Southwest including many, many trips into (and out of) the Grand Canyon.

John took leave of Ivie Design, his freelance design and illustration business, to work as a full-time artist/designer in the U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service's Pacific regional office for five years. He returned to his freelance business, now called Ivie Interpretive, in 2004. His six posters for the Klamath Basin refuges, one of which is the bald eagles in winter at Bear Valley National Wildlife Refuge, are still some of his favorite work and are part of any portfolio presentation.
