Reception and Keynote Speech
6:00 pm to 9:00 pm
Bountiful appetizers and no host bar will begin at 6:00 pm in the OIT College Union upstairs Mt. Bachelor-Shasta Lounge. Festival welcome and presentation begins at 7:15 pm at the College Union Auditorium, Trish Nixon, Raptor Specialist with The Peregrine Fund's World Center for Birds of Prey, will present the keynote presentation. "Back by Popular Demand: California Condors and Aplomado Falcons in the American West." She takes the audience behind the scenes at The Peregrine Fund in Boise, Idaho and describes how endangered birds of prey are bred in captivity and restored to their native habitats. Ms. Nixon will also feature a live bird of prey.
For 10 years, Trish has been responsible for the training, feeding and daily care of the 17 eagles, hawks, falcons and owls utilized in the Education Program. She's worked with birds for over 20 years and has dedicated much of her life to sharing her knowledge about and passion for the conservation projects of The Peregrine Fund with audiences of all ages.
In addition to writing articles for various publications and acting as spokesperson for The Peregrine Fund at outreach programs around the country, Trish also develops custom programs for college students, birders, and others who visit The Peregrine Funds Interpretive Center in Boise, Idaho. Training a Turkey Vulture to fly on cue for the public, displaying a rare Aplomado Falcon to 600 3rd graders in an assembly, sharing an office with a Peregrine Falcon, and raising a Swainson's Hawk chick are aspects of her work that make for interesting anecdotes and add a personal perspective to her public presentations.
