9:15 Workshop check-in, meet narrators, board buses
9:25 Depart OIT
Narrated tour of the geology, natural and human history of the section of the Volcanic Legacy Scenic Byway and All American Road which skirts Upper Klamath Lake, the Mountain Lakes and Sky Lakes Wildernesses, and the Klamath Ranger District of the Fremont-Winema National Forests. Participants will learn about the unique geology, ecology, habitats, birds and wildlife of this diverse transitional environment.
10:00 Arrive Rocky Point
Preview several of the local KBBT birding sites for birding opportunities as well as an understanding of birding during the other seasons of the year, esp. the spring migration and nesting season. Local artists will be on hand to share their work capturing the unique character of Pelican Bay and the flanks of Pelican Butte.
11:00 Depart for Crystalwood Lodge
Brief stops at the Upper Klamath overlook and Malone Springs birding areas enroute to Crystalwood Lodge.
11:20 Arrive Crystalwood Lodge
Participants have the opportunity to view the Volcanic Legacy Byway film and additional relevant videos, take short birding hikes to explore the transitional marsh habitat along Crystal Creek and Crystal Spring, or explore the wooded wetland, forests and meadows of Crystalwood Lodge by Dog Team, courtesy of Briar's Patch Sled Dogs. A gourmet buffet lunch will be available to tour participants, as well as the opportunity to converse with our local experts who will join you for lunch. Lunch is $12/adult, $9/child under 16. Dog Team rides are $25/sled (which holds up to 2 adults and 2 children).
2:00 Depart Crystalwood Lodge for Ft. Klamath/Wood River Valley
Narrators will continue to share the unique cultural and natural history of this valley nestled between the mountains of Crater Lake and the Upper Klamath and Agency Lakes. More previews of some of the premier birding sites along the KBBT including the Wood River Valley, Wood River Wetlands, Agency Lake, etc.
3:00 Arrive Two Rivers Village Arts, Chiloquin Community Center
Partake of a wine/cheese reception and the opportunity to shop for unique gifts crafted by local artisans.
4:15 Depart for OIT
