Mike Black

Wildlife Biologist

Mike retired as a wildlife biologist after 30 years with the Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife. During that time he managed the Elkhorn Wildlife Area in NE Oregon and worked as a wildlife and fishery biologist in Pendleton before becoming the District Wildlife Biologist in Roseburg.

As a native Oregonian growing up in Medford, he fell in love with the beauty and the richness of wildlife in the Rocky Point area in the early 1960's. He stayed in southern Oregon to major in biology at Southern Oregon College, receiving both a bachelor and masters degree. Most importantly, he met his wife while in college, and they now live in Rocky Point in a house they built together. Besides building the house, Mike recently built a cedar strip canoe that he claims took longer to build than the house. He and his wife enjoy traveling, birding, and canoeing, as well as spending time with the wonderful people that make up the Rocky Point Community.
