Sunday 9:00 - 10:00 am OIT College Union Mt. Thielsen Room.
Join National Park Service biologists Greg Holm and Scott Girdner to explore various aspects of the ecology of Crater Lake National Park, the only national park in Oregon. Located on the crest of the Cascade Mountains with elevations reaching 9,000 feet, the park is unique among places in Oregon and the world. In the first part of this program, Greg will focus on the birds of the park and the high elevation habitats they call home. Some species, such as Gray-crowned Rosy-Finch, are rarely found elsewhere in the Klamath Basin. In the second part of the program, Scott will focus on the fascinating ecology of the lake itself. Crater Lake was formed when Mount Mazama collapsed after a major eruption approximately 7,700 years ago. It is the deepest lake in the United States and one of the clearest lakes in the world.
