8:30 am-3:30 pm [8:30-10:00 am, OIT College Union room TBA for classroom presentation; 10:15 am-3:30 pm carpool field trip]
Are you new to hawk-watching, or want to get started? If so, this class and field trip combination is for you. Join Dick Ashford of the American Birding Association and the Klamath Bird Observatory for a straightforward introduction to our local hawks. We'll begin by asking, "What makes a hawk a hawk?" and we'll use the answer to that question to help us understand basic hawk identification. We'll then carpool to raptor hotspots in the southern Klamath Basin to put what we've learned into practice. The only prerequisites are curiosity, enthusiasm, and an interest in hawks. At the end of the session, you will be a certified raptor enthusiast! Bring snacks, drinks, and a lunch, or purchase a sack lunch in advance. We'll eat as the birds do -- on the go; no formal lunch stop is planned.
Fee: $25
